JumpKick Trust and Safety Team here! We wanted to let all of our wonderful backers know that this poor guy named Jeff is supposedly in need of money to replace his stolen computer, and he’s most likely telling the truth but we’re not quite sure. Thus, we decided to give you the full picture of our suspicions. He seems as desperate as many of the heartbreaking souls that turn to our site for support, but there’s a chance that he could be completely bulshitting us. Most likely not though. Either way, we strongly encourage you to support this guy’s cause, but this is just a fair warning.
Here’s his original post, with some comments from us:
“Hey all, my name’s Jeff Cornwall [okay… the name sounds fake. Who has a name like that? Well, maybe it’s German or Welsh or something, we don’t know]. I’m trying to raise money for my stolen computer! Unfortunately, my Gateway touch screen laptop [red flag: why would anyone want a Gateway laptop back?] went missing after I left it in the study lounge at my college [okay, guess that has happened to all of us]. I asked the front desk if they had seen one, but nope… nothing.
Needless to say, I am distraught. I had so many games on that computer, all of my screenplay ideas, and essays that I could have used as writing samples for grad school [these are all pretty specific, so he might be telling the truth.] I want the same brand laptop and I have no money right now [yeah, that’s what they all say].
My parents, friends, and grandparents can’t give me any money. Not because they don’t want me to succeed, but my mom, who just lost her job, [a bit of an overused excuse, if you ask us] and my dad, a woodworker, who struggles to pay the bills with his job alone [happens, but seems like a stretch] can’t afford to help me out with this [pity party, much?] I hope that you will consider donating. I’ve put so much money towards my education, and I don’t want to fail because I have to use a coronavirus infected library computer [name-dropping coronavirus is a realistic touch, we’ll admit].”
As you can see, we aren’t 100% that this guy’s being truthful. He’s probably not trying to grift you kind-hearted people, but just remember that JumpKick LLC is not legally responsible for any misused donations.
